Are we Becoming More Connected, But Less Present?

Adeola was sitting at the dinner table with her family. Everyone was there, but her attention was somewhere else.
And honestly, Adeola's story isn't unusual.
Perhaps you've seen it happen in your own home. Perhaps you've been the person trying to have a conversation while someone else scrolls through their phone. Or perhaps, without even realising it, you've been Adeola yourself.
It's interesting how technology allows us to connect with people thousands of miles away while, sometimes, the people sitting right beside us struggle to get our attention.
We tell ourselves we're only checking a message, replying to a comment or watching a quick video. But those little moments add up.
And the question isn't whether phones are good or bad. Technology has given us wonderful ways to communicate and stay connected.
The question is whether, in the process of connecting with everyone else, we sometimes become disconnected from the people right in front of us.
I believe being present is more than occupying the same space. It's giving someone the gift of our attention.
Perhaps the next time we sit around a dinner table, we could try something simple: put the phone down, look up and listen.
Not because technology is our enemy, but because the people in our lives deserve to know that they matter.
💬 THE CONVERSATION CORNER

Have you experienced this in your own life? What do you think we can do to become more present with the people around us?
Let's talk about it. Different perspectives are welcome.
