About the Author

02My Promise to YouThe opening invitation to the reader

Thank you for choosing to read The Digital Resilience Shift.

Before we begin, I'd like to make you a simple promise.

From the first page to the last, I will invite you into an honest conversation about technology, humanity and the choices that shape our lives. I won't ask you to fear the future, nor will I encourage you to embrace it uncritically. Instead, I hope to help you think more deeply, live more intentionally and remain deeply human in an increasingly digital world.

My hope is that, by the time you reach the final page, you will find yourself asking better questions, making wiser decisions and seeing both technology and yourself through a new lens.

If that happens, then this journey will have been worthwhile.

Let's begin.

03Chapter One: When the Digital World Moved InA selected passage

One conversation has stayed with me ever since I began thinking more deeply about our relationship with technology.

I had invited a colleague to be a guest on my podcast. She had valuable knowledge and experience to share, and I believed the conversation would benefit many people. To my surprise, she politely declined.

“I don't do social media,” she said. “I don't do online. You won't find me or my face anywhere on the internet.”

She had made a deliberate decision to stay away from social media, and I respected that choice. But as she spoke, I couldn't help smiling to myself. I knew she owned a smartphone. We communicated through WhatsApp as part of our workplace group. Like most of us, she relied on digital technology in ways that had become so ordinary that they were almost invisible.

My colleague had stepped away from one part of the digital world, but the digital world had not stepped away from her.
